Kirkcaldy's Promenade transforms under the weight of the largest funfair in Europe. And the oldest in Scotland a mile long, the "market" is filled with every conceivable fairground attraction - Europe's longest and most modern street fair stretching along the Esplanade for 6 days of thrills and spills for all ages.
Originally the market was held in Links Street, hence its name, but moved to the Promenade as it grew in size. The first Links Market was said to have taken place in 1306 (or 1304 depending on who you listen to), when King Edward I granted Kirkcaldy a weekly market and an Easter fair. At first, only goods such as linen and food were sold, but eventually the Easter Fair became the Links Market we know today. Event, is organized by Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain (Scottish Section), and Fife Council

2009 Kirkcaldy links market
Ones again the links market is over.
The biggest street fair in Europe and Scotland biggest fair as you know showmen look forward to this as they come from all over the uk.
I was there on Sunday 12th for the pull on to the ground at Kirkcaldy it was a very strange pull on as there where still other events going on in Dundee and in Edinburgh so they continue to pull on Monday and Tuesday.
For the events
Tuesday seen the showmen’s football in Glenrothes the Chris Findlay Memorial football competition
Then it was back to the dean park hotel in Kirkcaldy for the Presentation of the trophies and the kid dance and then on to the showmen’s dance at the candlerooms night club in Kirkcaldy.
Wednesday sees the opening off the 2009 Kirkcaldy links market from the showmen’s guild of Great Britain then seeing the prom coming alive with a steady stream of punters.
It was very cooled on Wednesday but sunny over all a good day.
Thursday 16th it was very cooled but sunny over all a good day.
Friday the 17th it was very cooled but sunny over all a good day
Saturday the 18th saw the model show and exhibition at the Links town church hall it was on from 10.30am-till-4.30pm and saw
Sunday 19th seen the big showman's dance at the candlerooms on the prom this is always been a greet
Dance were all the showmen get together at the end off the event
The fairground opened in total for six day period and ended on Monday 20th at Kirkcaldy
I would like to thank the entire Scottish Showmen's Section for the warm welcome you gave me on the ground and at the football Presentation and dance
Thank you
